Overview of PM-USHA

The PM-USHA unit at MBB College is the institutional body responsible for implementing the central government’s flagship higher education funding scheme. Previously known as RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan), the initiative was reimagined and launched as PM-USHA to directly align state colleges and universities with the mandates of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

As Tripura's oldest and premier institution of higher learning (established in 1947), MBB College utilizes this unit to drive institutional governance, manage central-state shared grants, and execute critical infrastructure and academic upgrades.

Core Objectives & Focus Areas

The PM-USHA unit at the college operates with a clear mandate to improve three major pillars: Access, Equity, and Excellence.

1. Infrastructure & Digital Transformation

  • The unit oversees targeted upgrades to bridge the digital divide and modernize the 64-acre campus.
  • Smart Classrooms & IT Labs: Facilitating the procurement of modern computer systems, high-speed connectivity, and digital learning tools.
  • Library Modernization: Procuring books, digital resources, and specialized storage/utility furniture to support the growing academic needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

2. NEP 2020 Alignment & Academic Reform

PM-USHA funding is strictly tied to how well an institution adopts the National Education Policy. The MBB College unit manages resources to support:

  • The multidisciplinary curriculum framework.
  • Enhancing skill-development programs and hands-on laboratory vocational training.
  • Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) to equip professors with modern pedagogical methods.

3. Equity and Inclusion Initiatives

Following PM-USHA's central guidelines, the unit ensures that funds explicitly cater to creating an equitable campus environment. This includes developing infrastructure accessible to physically challenged students and organizing socio-educational workshops focusing on gender inclusion and equal opportunity.
